So I just bought a 1952 military dodge and I heard you can’t drive with the windshield down in CA.... I called the CHP and the old lady who answered gave me attitude and I wasn’t exactly clear on the answer, the Jeep forums are unclear and nobody knows. If I go out in west marin, country, I will probably risk it and play dumb if they pull me over. I can always put the windshield up right there with them watching. I mean you can have an open face helmet on a bike and then you are only required to have eye protection, which you need!

I’d always heard it was eye-protection that’s required.

If a windshield is required, what about motorcycles and speedster porsches with the super low-cut windshield..?

Pirate4X4 has some discussion, including a lawyer!

26700. (a) Except as provided in subdivision (b), a passenger vehicle, other than a motorcycle, and every bus, motortruck or truck tractor, and every firetruck, fire engine or other fire apparatus, whether publicly or privately owned, shall be equipped with an adequate windshield.

26701. (a) No person shall sell, offer for sale, or operate any
motor vehicle, except a motorcycle, manufactured after January 1,
1936, unless it is equipped with safety glazing material wherever
glazing materials are used in interior partitions, doors, windows,
windshields, auxiliary wind deflectors or openings in the roof.

All of these say equipped but it doesn’t say it has to be up if it has more than one position?
